A New Toothbrush For National Dental Hygiene Month

10/16/2019

It’s been ten years since National Dental Hygiene Month was founded and we are more excited than ever to focus on oral health. Taking a break from discussing the restorative dentistry options we offer such as extractions near Hoffman Estates, we want to make sure you are replacing your toothbrush as recommended.

When To Replace Your Toothbrush Or Toothbrush Head

According to the American Dental Association, it’s important to replace your toothbrush—or toothbrush head if you have an electric one—every three to four months, or when the bristles are frayed, whichever comes first. When bristles are frayed, a toothbrush can lose its effectiveness. A newer toothbrush is more likely to remove more plaque than your current one.

Replace After A Sickness

If you recently had a cold or you were not feeling well, you should consider getting a new toothbrush. Toothbrush bristles can hold onto the bacteria that was in your mouth when you were sick and if used again, you may relapse. It’s a good idea to have disposable toothbrushes handy to use when you’re sick so you can toss them when you become healthy again.
