Porcelain Dental Veneers in Elk Grove Village

The appearance of our smile is important to the health of our teeth, but it is also vital to our self esteem and self confidence. When someone feels insecure about their smile, it can impact the way they feel about themselves and how they carry themselves in the world.

For patients with crooked, stained, or chipped teeth, teeth that are too short, too long, or otherwise misshapen, there are various cosmetic procedures available that offer solutions.

One of the most effective and simple ways to improve the look of your smile is with porcelain veneers. Veneers are essentially tooth colored caps that bond directly onto the front of natural teeth, creating a more uniform appearance. The application process is usually completed in two appointments, the procedure requires no downtime, and the results are always customized to the patient’s needs.

Ideal Candidates for Porcelain Veneers

Patients may be eligible for porcelain veneers if their teeth are crooked, gapped, misshapen, discolored, chipped, or otherwise flawed. Orthodontics and dental crowns also offer cosmetic solutions to these issues, however, both are more invasive, and braces take months to years to garner results.

Patients who receive veneers must have a healthy amount of natural tooth structure. This is because a thin layer of tooth enamel needs to be removed in order for the veneers to adhere to the front of the teeth.

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last

Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth colored caps that can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years with proper care. Veneers are made with extremely durable materials and are bonded directly onto teeth.

Do Porcelain Veneers Stain

Veneers are stain resistant, and usually remain looking brighter and cleaner than natural teeth long after application.

The Application Process

Veneers are typically applied in two appointments. During the first appointment, your dentist will prep your teeth, then take molds of your teeth that will be used to create permanent veneers. Your dentist will also apply temporary veneers that are designed to last about two weeks. Within those two weeks, the molds will be sent to a lab where a custom set of porcelain veneers will be made.

During your second appointment, your dentist will remove the temporary veneers and carefully apply your permanent set. If the permanent veneers fit properly, and you like the way they look and feel, they will be bonded onto your natural teeth.
